The time range between the start and end of the company's fiscal year is called Period. LOGO can be used in two methods:

  • Period Dependent
  • Period Independent

Period Dependent

Data files of transactions performed within a specific period are recorded in period folders opened under the company directory, while period independent data files such as cards and definitions are stored directly under the company directory. In this way, LOGO reports that cover multiple periods can be generated.

Periods are added by opening the related company definition on the company definitions window. New period information is recorded using "New" option located in the right mouse button menu of Periods option. The options and functions of the Period Definition window are:

...

Reporting Currency: Indicates the reporting currency type. All transactions are reported and recorded both in local currency and the reporting currency specified on this field. The currency type specified on this field is used in financial tables and reports.
Period information is recorded by clicking on "Save" button. A warning message indicating that period files will be generated is displayed. Period files of the company are generated when this message is confirmed. The plus sign is displayed next to the period definition instead of the minus sign.

Period files cannot cover more than one year. Working periods of certain companies can start during the midyear, and working periods are specified accordingly.

Period definitions are listed under related company definitions on the company definitions window along with period number, fiscal year start date, fiscal year end date and file information.

Companies may have multiple periods. One of these periods is selected as default. In this way, the period selected on this field can be used when users login to the LOGO application without making any further selection. "Mark as the current period" option located in the right mouse button menu of the period definition is used to select periods.

Period Independent

When periods are not used, previous period information can be accessed at any time and carrying over operations are not required at the end of period. "Start Working as Fiscal Period Independent" option located in the right mouse button menu of the company selected on the company definitions window is used to work without periods. When this option is used, it is mandatory to use the period independent system. The application does not allow users to return to period dependent method.

When "Start Working as Fiscal Period Independent" is selected, a warning message indicating that the previous working system cannot be used is displayed. When this message is confirmed, period end dates of specified periods can be changed unless they are earlier than the end date of the previous period.

Carrying over operations are not required when "Fiscal Period Independent" option is used. G/L carrying over operations are performed only to generate G/L opening and closing slips. This transaction is performed using Inflation Accounting Slip Transfer option located in the File menu of the LOGO application, and opening and closing slips are generated automatically. Carrying Over Parameters window is used to specify the end date of the previous fiscal year and the start date of the new fiscal year. The Old Slip Date indicates the date on which the closing slip will be generated. Closing slip transactions and balances are specified by scanning transactions before this date. The New Slip Date indicates the date on which the opening slip will be generated. Opening slip transactions consist of counter transactions with the same balance amount as the closing slip.

Displaying the fiscal year regardless of dates covered by the working period performs G/L transactions. Working without periods allows total reports to be generated by specifying the required year on filter lines. Yearly total information is listed by adding dates on Account Summary windows.

On AR/AP, Safe Deposit and Bank Account Summary windows, the previous period balance is displayed as the first line of each year after the working period start date. The previous period balance contains the balance of the previous year. If the working period started during the interim period, data from the interim period to the end of the year is listed for the first year, while yearly data is listed for following years.
"Select Working Period" option located in the File menu of the LOGO application is used to select company periods. The working periods of the company are listed. Once the required period definition is selected, a warning message indicating that the period will be activated is displayed. The period is activated when this message is confirmed.

Company or period deleting transactions are performed using "Delete" option located in the right mouse button menu of the company on the Company Definitions window in the Management menu of the System Administrator application. If the company will be deleted, first working periods of the company must be removed. Otherwise, the application displays a warning message indicating that periods must be deleted first, and the company is not deleted.
