Preparation steps for a successful master production schedule transaction are summarized below. Some of these steps are obligatory, however some of them are arbitrary.

  • If the material will be used in Master Production Schedule (MPS) transactions, the Master Production Schedule option has to be selected as planning method in plant parameters of the material.

Materials' lot sizing methods have to be defined by their plant parameters. "Lot for Lot" option is displayed as default.

It is possible to calculate lead times of the materials required for the production or for purchasing. This shows that the different leading types have different meanings:

    • For Production: For the MPS transaction, there has to be only one BOM definition for each material. (The plant and the date range have to be predefined for the BOM)

      • Material production duration has to be determined according to quantity related (a) and non-related (b) times.
      • A working shift (valid formerly) has to be determined and an active product line has to be selected for the production.
    • For Purchasing: For the MPS transaction, there has to be only one supplier related with the material. Material lead-time has to be determined according to quantity related (a) and non-related (b) times.

The lead time mentioned here is calculated as below:

As to amount (q) value change; Lead Time = a*q + b

If any acceptable BOM or supplier assignment cannot be found for a material and a procurement amount has been calculated for the product, the proposal will be generated for the calculated amount although there is not a BOM or supplier.

In case of necessity, some materials' safety inventory levels can be defined. Thus, during MPS calculations, the system will try not to decrease inventory levels below these defined levels.

The date range and the plant have to be defined at the beginning of the MPS transaction. Here, some warehouses in list can be neglected optionally. This list occurs by the dependent warehouses to the related plant or by the warehouses free from plant.
